GANESH WITH FLUTE 12"

This brass statue is of Lord Ganesh. Probably one of the most popular Hindu deities, he is known as God of wisdom and the remover of obstacles. The story goes that goddess Parvati created Ganesh from the sweat of her body and breathed life in to him. She instructed him to guard her door and forbad anyone to enter as she bathed. When Ganesh refused to admit Lord Shiva (not knowing he was his father), Shiva was enraged and cut of Ganesh's head. When Parvati came to know of this, she was deeply distressed. Shiva offered to replace his head with the head of the next living being that came along which happened to be an elephant. Ganesh is shown here playing a flute and surrounded by a frame or halo. He is 12 inches tall and finished in antiqued brass.
